Tasks of the International Trotskyist Opposition

Adopted by the ITO Congress
1 November 2022

International Tasks

1. Finalize the documents of the 29 October – 1 November 2022 congress in English and Italian and distribute them to delegates and observers and to ITO supporters and contacts.

2. Create an ITO website for the congress documents, an archive of past documents, future ITO statements, and a selection of articles from the ITO sections and allied organizations. Develop a social media presence as we have the resources to do so.

3. Organize meetings of the International Executive Committee and International Secretariat. Organize the election of the International Coordinating Committee and set up an email list for its members.

4. Establish an internal discussion bulletin and possibly other means for ITO supporters to communicate with each other (social media, Slack, Zoom, etc.).

5. Adopt statements on important political issues as they come up, including endorsing and translating statements from the ITO sections and allied organizations.

6. Develop discussions with the observers to the 2022 congress, starting from a candid statement of how we understand our current relationship and what we would have to do to unite in a common organization. The International Executive Committee will adopt and distribute a balance sheet of the congress and set priorities for developing the discussions.

7. Determine what other international and national organizations we should attempt to open discussions with and the rate at which we can do so.

8. Establish a division of labor and responsibilities under the direction of the leading bodies, and a system of finances to support the above.

National Tasks

1. Build the PCL as an independent organization intervening in the Italian class struggle.

2. Expand the ITO nucleus in the US through political discussions and practical work in Solidarity, Tempest, and the various struggles in which our comrades are involved.

3. Establish ITO nuclei in Denmark and Britain/Scotland to work in the various organizations and movements in which ITO comrades are involved (Socialist Workers Party, Socialist Resistance, Scottish Socialist Party, etc.).

4. Establish or expand nuclei or build organizations in other countries as our contact work and regroupment create opportunities.
